Caerphilly Kyokushinkai Karate, right on your doorstep.
Let it change your life like it did ours.
Build your body and mind by unleashing your potential
Karate is a Japanese word that means “empty hand”. It is a method of unarmed combat. Apart from teaching you how to strike, block and kick effectively, karate is great training for both body and mind..

real karate
Kyokushinkai is a traditional style of karate. It includes but is not limited to punches, blocks, kicks and throws. You're trained to stay calm and react well in all situations. How to read a threat, and respond with precision.

get fighting fit
Kyokushinkai isn’t just a martial art, it’s a full body, full mind transformation. With every intense session, you’ll sculpt power, speed, endurance, and agility, but more than that—you’ll forge grit, discipline, and an unstoppable mindset.

cardio training
Drills, sparring, and kata sequences keep you moving, raising your heart rate and improving stamina. Every training session becomes a heart-thumping workout that torches calories while sharpening your reflexes.
It's time, change your body & MIND
Kyokushinkai first came to Britain in 1965 when Hanshi Steve Arneil (10th dan) began the British Karate Kyokushinkai (BKK). He began his karate in Japan with Sosai Mas Oyama, who was him self the founder of Kyokushinkai. In 1991 Hanshi Arneil founded the International Federation of Karate (IFK). The BKK currently has around 53 clubs and the IFK has over 100,000 members in 19 countries worldwide.

Kihon (Basics)
This is where you learn all the basic techniques that will challenge your body and mind. Each stance, strike, and block is crafted through repetition and discipline. It’s the foundation of Kyokushinkai—developing strength, precision, and control, while forging a deep connection between thought and movement.

Kata (Form)
Kata a form of battle where every movement a calculated response to unseen opponents. Through precise repetition, Kata trains your body to react with clarity and purpose. It sharpens form, timing, rhythm, and flow, making your techniques not just correct, but instinctive. This is where the mind and the body executes.

Kumite (Fighting)
Kyokushinkai isn’t just karate—it’s the raw, full-contact truth. The Ultimate Truth. It’s the style that tests your limits, hits with purpose, and commands respect the moment you step onto the mat. Feared by some. Revered by many. Recognised by all.
Discover our Instructors

Where are we?
Training every Tuesday and Thursday at the Aber Valley YMCA, Brynhafod Road, Abertridwr. With Sensei Roger Styles. Juniors train 6pm to 7pm. Seniors train 7pm to 8:30pm.
If you would like to try karate, just come along and join in, or feel free to watch a training session you could also contact Hannah on 07495049961 for more details.
When you first start training you will join in with the class, learning the basics of Kyokushinkai Karate. You won’t be expected to know anything because a lot of karate is taught by being shown and watching what others do. You don’t have to be fit to start because the training will develop your fitness, stamina, co-ordination and strength as you go along.
When you start you only need some loose clothes to train in. We train with bare feet so it is important to make sure that your toe and finger nails are short and clean. Also bring a bottle of water and something warm to wear after training.
after two weeks or so You will be expected to buy a karate Gi (white karate suit) and a license.
You may also want to compete in or watch tournaments. We regularly attend tournaments in no-contact, semi-contact and full-contact fighting and in kata, so there are plenty of opportunities to choose from.
Unleash yourself, force yourself
Tear down the walls of comfort and let the fighter emerge. You were meant for more. The soul that dares to unleash its true strength will find no limits worth fearing.

Untamed Spirit
Strength fades, but spirit endures. It’s the will to rise again that defines the Kyokushin fighter.

Conditioning
Conditioning carves the body, but more importantly it sculpts the resolve. Every strike absorbed, every breath fought for strengthens the spirit that refuses to yield.

Surpass Your Limits
Limits exist to be shattered—every time you break through, you become someone new
